Descend via Millennium Camp (3800m) and Mweka Camp (3000m) to Mweka Gate (1800m)

After plodding for 4 hours, every step getting more and more strenous, we reached the edge of the crater, Stella Point at 5732 meters.

My freezed nose has turned blue already. It is just a routine job for guide Mussa but he, too, has brought his camera.
We take our time to walk along the crater's rim to the very top. It is pretty cold (-15°c/5°F) and we don't want to wait too long for the sunrise.

However, at 5.30am we are there. Uhuru Peak means "Freedom Peak".

The first light appears shortly after 6am. But it doesn't get sensibly warmer.

The dark line is the top of Mawenzi
(5148 meters).

The Kilimanjaro glaciers are melting rapidly. In former days they were found down at 3600m. Even 1898 they reached to 4000m at the Northwest side. Until 1930 they moved back to 4500m.

Most glaciers are at the Southwest, in contrast to the Northeast. The reason is the different grade of the wind's humidity and the resulting condensation.

The glaciers are expected to be gone completely within the next 15 years.
