The 43rd London Marathon turns out to be a day of records. Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum at his only 2nd marathon clocks the 2nd best time ever run. After 2:01:25 he misses Kipchoge's world record by just 18 seconds. Obviously this is a new London Marathon course record.

Another course record was set by Marcel Hug (SUI) in the wheelchair race in 1:23:44.

The ladies race was won by first timer Sifan Hassan (NED) after a sprint finish in 2:18:33. Wheelchair winner for her second time is Madison de Rosaria (AUS).

48,597 finisher make this by far the biggest London Marathon ever and after New York and Paris the third biggest one world wide.

90-year-old David Picksley (GBR) finished successfully after 7:16:46.

58,015 numbers had been issued, thereof 41.8% to women. 29.9% are international runners from nearly all countries of the world.

Deeply saddened the London Marathon has to report the sudden death of Steve Shanks (45). Steve was a highly experienced runner and completed the marathon sub 3 hours in 2:53. He passed away shortly after the race on his way home to Nottinghamshire. It is the 14th fatality during the 43 years of London Marathon history. Fund raising page
